Nose Reshaping

Rhinoplasty, also known as Nose Reshaping job, is a surgery to change the shape or appearance of the nose, for either cosmetic or medical reasons, such as to correct breathing problems or trauma.

A large number of people are unhappy about the shape of their nose. They think it is too big or it has an awkward shape. On the other hand, there are some people with breathing problems or birth defects. This reshaping procedure can improve overall facial appearance, nasal aesthetics, and nasal proportion, as well as increase ease of breathing in certain patients. Most rhinoplasty incisions are hidden. Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures in Iran (seven times more than the United States). Iranian nose surgeons are among the most popular surgeons in the world since they are well-educated and experienced.

Type of Nose Reshaping:

  • Aesthetic rhinoplasty: changing the appearance of the nose for cosmetic reasons
  • Functional rhinoplasty: improve the nasal airway to improve breathing

Before Nose Reshaping

Patients should inform their surgeon about medical history. They may need to do some lab tests and graphs. The surgeon may perform a physical exam and takes a photograph of the nose from various angles and asks them about what they want and show them how it would look like after surgery. If patient has hemophilia, it is better to avoid rhinoplasty since it causes excessive bleeding. They should stop smoking a few days before and after the surgery. They should stop taking medicines containing Aspirin or Ibuprofen two weeks before and after the surgery.

During Nose Reshaping

The surgeon may use local or general anaesthesia. The surgeon cuts between or inside the nostrils and readjusts the bone or cartilage underneath the skin. If it is needed more cartilage, the surgeon will remove some cartilage from the ear or deeper parts inside the nose. The average duration of rhinoplasty is about 1 to 4 hours.

After Nose Reshaping

After the procedure, the surgeon places a plastic or metal splint on the nose to retain its shape during the healing process. Patients should elevate their head for a few days after the surgery. They might experience drainage and bleeding for a few days after the surgery. They can use a piece of gauze to absorb the blood and mucus. Rhinoplasty can cause discolouration and swelling around the eyelids for a few weeks after the surgery. These are common symptoms and patients can use cold compresses to decrease these symptoms.
