Overview of Microdermabrasion
Every day our skin is exposed to environmental elements. Pollution, sun’s rays and other damaging agents can gradually affect our skin. The features of people’s face are what make them unique. Microdermabrasion works on all skin types and colors and will not cause scarring or color changes.
Type of Microdermabrasion
- Swiping a crystal/diamond-tipped wand across the skin: using a diamond-tip wand that is gently moved across the skin to exfoliate
- Firing highly pressurized crystals against the skin surface: An attached vacuum suctions exfoliating crystals back into the machine, along with the dead or loosened skin.
Microdermabrasion Recommended For:
- Patients with fine facial lines or wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, uneven pigmentation, clogged pores, skin texture problems, or minor scars
Patients should consult with a skin care professional to find out if microdermabrasion is the right fit for them. They should avoid sun exposure, tanning creams, and waxing for about a week before treatment. They should stop using exfoliating creams and masks approximately three days prior to treatment. They have to remember to remove any makeup and cleanse their face before the procedure begins.
It’s not necessary to use anesthesia or a numbing agent for microdermabrasion. The procedure usually takes about one hour.
The skin will be pink and feel dry and tight for about 24 hours. Patients should use moisturizers and sunscreens. They should avoid sun exposure for a few days after the procedure. Makeup should not be applied for at least 24 hours after the procedure. They should avoid using topical acne medications for at least one day after the procedure. They will be able to resume daily activities immediately.
